CW: Sexual Activity, Some Non-Consensual/Semi-Consensual Sex, Language, Kidnapping, Dark Themes, Polyamory, Violence, Murder If you’re looking for a Peter Pan retelling that is full of angst and is spicy, I’d recommend picking up The Never King by Nikki St. Crowe. Holy cow… In all honesty, I couldn’t tell you what attracted me to The Never King other than the cover. I saw it on KindleUnlimited and borrowed it because it looked cool. I definitely wasn’t expecting a spicy, angsty retelling of Peter Pan. But let me tell you, I couldn’t put the book down after I started reading it! I literally read all 192 pages in one afternoon, on my phone. Yes, on my phone. I have to say, I love the characters in this book. I adore the twins – Bash and Kas, I love Vane, I love Peter Pan, and I adore Winnie. Vane is such an interesting […]

Book Review: Dragons of Winter Night by Margaret Weis & Tracy Hickman

I have to say, if you’re looking for a fantasy book with suspense, intrigue, death, and betrayal, you’d do well to pick up Dragons of Winter Night by Margaret Weis & Tracy Hickman. First things first – be aware that when you start Dragons of Winter Night, you’ll be starting about a month after the ending of Dragons of Autumn Twilight, and in kind of an awkward spot as you’ll have little idea of what’s going on because the companions have gone on an adventure that we don’t get to read about. There’s a lot of suspense and intrigue in this middle book in the series. We meet a new character who becomes one of the companions of sorts, but there are reasons not to trust this new character. The newbie also has a secret, that will be revealed in due time. You’ll also get the chance to meet an […]

Book Review: Never Say Never by Justine Manzano

Again, I’m not really a huge romance fan. Yes, I like the genre, I just tend to read other genres before I read romance. I’m really not a big fan of “YA Romance” – for some reason I just don’t care much for it. But Never Say Never? Yeah, I’m definitely a fan of this one. Let’s start off with the basics – Brynn Stark has stated she’ll never fall in love. She’s not a people person, she’s sarcastic, and she’s not the “ideal” type of pretty by society’s standards Enter her best friend Nina and Nina’s foster sister Val. Val is all about love and likes to meddle in others’ love lives. Of course, she IS Aphrodite, so that explains a lot. I love Brynn. She and I share a lot of characteristics. We both like to wear black, band shirts, and jeans. We’re both sarcastic and neither one […]

Go the Distance by Jen Calonita

I am using a modified version of the CAWPILE rating system to do my review. If you’re curious about the CAWPILE system, check out this video by Book Roast! I’m going to be perfectly honest here – I’ve never watched Disney’s Hercules. Everything I know about it is from playing the first Kingdom Hearts game. That’s pretty much it. But, I love the Twisted Tales series, so I had to read Go the Distance regardless. The Characters Since I hadn’t seen the movie, I hadn’t really met Megara or Phil. To be honest, I know who Hades, Hercules, Hera, Zeus, and the other Greek gods are because I do have a thing for Greek mythology. But Megara and Phil were two characters I hadn’t met before. Philoctetes (Phil) Again, my only interaction with this character before was playing the Colosseum in Kingdom Hearts. I hated the character in Kingdom Hearts, […]
