Why I Don’t Read Romance (Normally)

I know what you’re thinking… how does someone, especially a woman, not read romance? Well… I just don’t.

I’m not sure when it happened, but I stopped enjoying most romance novels. I used to read them all the time. My mom got me into them. But as the years went by, I just kind of stopped reading them. Now, when I try to pick one up, I just can’t seem to stay interested in it.

I’ve started to liken it to the reason I don’t watch football anymore – it was something I had in common with one of my parents. My dad and I always watched football together. When he passed away, I stopped watching. I still follow my favorite team, but I don’t watch the games.

It’s the same with romance novels – my mom would read them and hand them off to me, telling me I might like that one. When she passed away, I stopped reading romance novels for the most part. It makes me a little sad because I used to love reading the romance novels – now I just can’t sit through one without getting bored or annoyed.

That’s not to say I don’t at least try. I do like Leslie North’s novels and I have a friend who is writing a romance series that I plan to read because 1) the author is a friend, 2) the novels are music based, and 3) I don’t hate romance novels, I just don’t read them much.

Do you have a suggestion for a romance novel for someone who isn’t particularly into them?
